Indies 2014

I know, I know, 2013 isn't over yet but we're well into planning for 2014.  Today we've been planning the timetable for our very popular Indies sessions.   These tak place on Monday mornings between 10:00 and 12:00 and Monday afternoons between 1:00 and 3:00.

At these you can take part in activities alongside other people. As well as taking part in new activities it is an opportunity to meet people and make friends. We make sure there is a variety of things going on because we know some people want to be more active than others.

We have some exciting new activity during the first quarter of 2014: more bushcraft and woodworking! You'll be able to learn new skills and create some amazing things - some of which you'll be able to take home. We'll be doing hedge laying (the old fashioned way), learning about hurdle making and creating bird boxes, bird tables and bird feeders (see a theme going here?). There'll still be opportunities to do archery, climbing, ropes course and orienteering plus, once the weather gets a bit warmer, motorboat, canoeing and kayaking. Make sure you're booked in now.

January - March 2014:   cost for block of 12 sessions (for each individual plus 1 carer) £180

outdoor learning in action

Today QE2 Activity Centre hosted an accessible outdoor learning workshop.  Activity instructors from Hindleap Warren, Fairthorne Manor, Marwell Activity Centre, Itchen Scouts and Rosie and Jim Adventures took part in the day long workshop which looked at climbing, zipwires, canoeing and water activities.

Thanks a million!

Simon Dawkins presenting a cheque to the Green Team this morning

A couple of early Christmas present for the QE2 Activity Centre this week with two donations from some very active people.

A few weeks ago a bunch of friends who met through Yi Quin Lion Dance group, based in Southampton, approached the QE2 Activity Centre . They asked if they could use our ropes course to train for an event they were taking part in. They spent a morning putting themselves through their paces and the following weekend took part in the Men’s Health “Survival of the Fittest” at Battersea Power Station.

Calling themselves the Wolf pack they completed the course in an hour and fifteen minutes. One of the team, Wayne Smith, called in on Monday with a bucketful (literally!) of cash, raised through sponsorship at his workplace Griffon Hoverworks at Woolston. Thanks guys! And good luck for next year!

Today  Simon Dawkins, whose cousin Dan is a very keen member of our Green Team, came in to present a cheque for sponsorship he raised taking part in the Great South Run.  His donation will help provide the GreenHouse with some new tools for the New Year.  Simon completed the run in an hour and half so well done, and thanks for thinking of the QE2 Activity Centre.

Another donation received this morning was from Mary, in Hamble, who instead of giving Christmas cards makes a donation to QE2 Activity Centre each year.

As a charity the QE2 Activity Centre relies on the support of our local community.  Thanks a million to everyone who has made a donation, given their time or helped the Centre in any way, shape or form during 2013.  We really value your support.

December at QE2 Activity Centre

Just because it is winter it doesn't mean that things stop at QE2 Activity Centre.  You can go indoors for climbing, archery, swinging around and games.  Or you can wrap up warm and go outside like these guys.

Motorboat trips this week have been bracing but always entertaining (yesterday we saw two kingfishers, several egrets, curlews and a buzzard sitting on a tree stump watching us go by).

And here's the reindeer that Team Q built.

Don't forget Christmas carol concert tonight (details in the last post).
The Accessible Outdoor Learning workshop on December 17th is fully booked.
