Big day out for all the staff at QE2 Activity Centre on Saturday!  Off we all trooped in our finery for the wedding of instructor Graham Marks and his bride, Kerry Griggs.  Pictured above is Graham's arrival at St Peters Church, Curdridge with best man Phil Dickinson (another former QE2 staff member).  Below is the couple, looking adorable.

Meanwhile back at the Centre the Green Team have been harvesting some of their crop.  Billy and Alison can be seen with loads of rhubarb, Trevor has the green beans while Tim and Ali are showing off the sweetcorn.   Looking good!

Go for Gold

Over the past three years QE2 Activity Centre has been offering day services.  We have the GreenHouse, we have Team Q and we have Gold.

Gold is an active day service offering a mixed timetable with a varied, stimulating programme for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs.

And we have a vacancy.  From January 2014 we will need a new co-worker for Gold.  This is a job which would suit someone with imagination and flexibility who likes a challenge.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with individuals with a variety of complex needs, good communication and leadership skills, be flexible, patient and a problem solver. We undertake a variety of activities, many of which take place outside - all year round - so you'll need to be keen on the outdoors. A positive attitude and good sense of humour would help!

We offer a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities including walking, games, baking and arts and crafts. We have a significant focus on developing and nurturing independent living skills through cooking, we prepare and cook our lunch everyday, making a wide selection of dishes.

We also focus on exercise and being as healthy as possible, taking advantage of the 400 acre Manor Farm Country Park and working in our very own patch of garden. In between all of that we also have regular opportunities to take part in some of the more challenging activities including, canoeing, climbing, archery, the ropes course and regular trips on the Hamble river in the Centre's wheelchair accessible boat.

We plan activities to match individual ability levels to make sure that everyone enjoys and positively experiences what they do with the Gold group.

Team Q on the move

This week members of QE2 Activity Centre's Team Q day service have gone away to the River Wye for a canoe expedition.  Here they are enjoying lunch on day 2 on the riverbank.

Team Q meets every Thursday between 9:30 and 3:30 at QE2 Activity Centre.  Twice a year they go on expedition, earlier this year they camped in the New Forest, now they're exploring the River Wye.  In between they take part in activities like canoeing and bushcraft, and learn the skills they'll need for their expeditions.  Some members have taken food hygiene and fire safety courses too.

If you're interested in joining Team Q on Thursdays get in touch. We are alos plotting to offer Team Q on Tuesdays too.  Let us know if you're interested!
